Forging the Standard of Care for Fitness

Reuben Health is essentially the culmination of every effort I’ve made to promote fitness broadly and help people navigate health. The passion started during my freshman year at the University of Missouri, where I was studying Biochemistry while working as a personal and group fitness coach for my four years there. I chose this major because I liked science and wanted to push myself; I chose that job because I like people, thought working in fitness sounded cool… and also wanted a free gym membership.

Pretty soon into coaching I realized that, although everyone has their own unique reasons for wanting to start a fitness routine, we ALL want the additional benefits of improved functionality and resistance to disease. However, the issue is that most coaching and fitness programs tend to focus only on either body mass or athletic ability, while most medical providers either don’t discuss exercise at all or briefly mention it but only in the context of disease management. It became clear to me that in the war against modern disease, the two branches of our military (fitness and medicine) are not communicating enough.

So, I decided to apply to medical school and eventually started at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in 2022. During medical school, my main goal was of course to become a great, well-rounded physician; but my other goal was to apply all the science and life lessons to create an avenue that will help patients access reliable fitness resources, learn about their body, and participate in their health.
