Prescription: Progressive resistance training (PRT) at least 2 days per week on non-consecutive days.
Clinical Focus: This is backed by Level A evidence. Workouts should target all major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders, and arms). The AAFP advises 8 to 12 repetitions per activity, or continuing a set until it is difficult to do another repetition without help, to stimulate muscle hypertrophy and prevent functional decline.

Prescription: Weight-bearing aerobic exercises (e.g., brisk walking, jogging) and high-impact resistance training.
Clinical Focus: Exercise is a primary non-pharmacologic intervention for preventing bone loss. Furthermore, for older adults at risk of osteoporotic fractures, the guidelines explicitly require balance training (e.g., backward walking, heel/toe walking, tai chi) 3 or more days per week to reduce fall risk.

Prescription: 150 minutes of moderate-intensity, low-impact aerobic activity (e.g., swimming, stationary cycling) per week, plus flexibility exercises at least 2 days a week.
Clinical Focus: Any physical activity is better than being sedentary. Guidelines emphasize that stretching and flexibility exercises (like yoga or tai chi) are critical to preserve and extend the range of motion around affected joints.
